Nice choice, Jim.

"Jose Ceda brought a painful secret with him when he showed up to spring training last season with the Marlins, fresh off a trade from the Chicago Cubs. Ceda -- unbeknown by the Marlins until Sunday -- had shot his best friend with a handgun in the Dominican Republic.

The friend survived, and the shooting was ruled an accident, according to the 23-year-old pitcher and his agent, Paul Kinzer. Details of the shooting are fuzzy.

But Ceda was scarred emotionally. "

Where's your God now, MGRW?!?

Wasn't that the turd they got in the Todd Walker deal? Nice choice, indeed.

Yes. Also the turd they gave up for Kevin Gregg.

And that's that turd train, beginning to end.

I'd always assumed they had courts or something to make rulings in the Dominican.

And yet poor Ugueth Urbina resides locked up in Venezuela. Innocent.

Derrek's friends must suck. Although he gets credit for not perpetuating the chemistry bullplop.

QuoteThe "chemistry" question just won't go away. You-know-who was subtracted, and Kevin Millar and Marlon Byrd were added. D-Lee probably summed things up best.

"I don't think that was our problem last year," Lee said of bad chemistry. "I just think we didn't play good baseball, and the injuries mounted up on us."

On Millar, D-Lee said: "He's great to be around. I had a chance to play with him in Florida. He's probably the funniest guy I know. I woke up this morning looking forward to seeing him."

Any David Patton news? There has to be a valid reason we kept this guy on our roster last year right?

He's a ginger.  Every team needs a hapless ginger to root for.

Jim Hendry can eat shit.
I think he's more of the appendix of Desipio.  Yeah, it's here and you're vaguely aware of it, but only if reminded.  The only time anyone notices it is when it ruptures (on Weebs in the video game thread).  Beyond that, though, it's basically useless and offers no redeeming value.

The last time a Patton was involved in a sneak attack, it looked like this:

I should have known my Patton update could be obtained from Carrie. I still have no idea what potential we saw in David Patton last year, enough to keep him on our roster all year.

"Have you heard much regarding Rule 5 Draft pick Michael Parisi's chances of actually sticking with the club and contributing? Last year, it seemed as if Lou had his hands tied with David Patton. Also, can Patton be sent down to the Minors this year without offering him back?
-- Steve B., Marion, Iowa

Parisi's situation is different than Patton's. Parisi actually has pitched in the big leagues, appearing in 12 games in 2008 with the St. Louis Cardinals. Patton had not pitched above Class A when he was selected in the Rule 5 Draft. And yes, Patton can be sent down to the Minors now and stay with the Cubs. "
