According to the Nationals' official Twitter feed, the club has released outfielder Elijah Dukes.

No reason was given. Dukes hit a disappointing .250/.337/.393 over 416 at-bats in 2009, but he's just 25 years old and was expected to serve as the Nationals' starting right fielder this season. On top of that, he was only going to require a $444,000 salary in 2010. It's not clear who will start in right field.

A .337 OBP?  Not bad, eh?  The SLG is awful.  I know the Cubs probably have no room for him, but I just thought this was interesting.  He was supposed to start for Washington this year.

Heck of an argument. He must be worth picking up.

He's a Milton style POS. Just not nearly as good. I'm glad the Nats ditched this guy. I think they can be a fun team this year and really piss some people off. I guess since they'll inevitably piss me off when they beat up on the Cubs this will backfire. Still, I like that team to spoil. They still need more pitching.

Shocking given the lack of drug problems in Ranger history.

Then again, maybe this explains why they loved Milton there.

He basically required a babysitter to keep an eye on him so as to steer him away from violating his parole, if I recall correctly.  Pretty sure he was the pot-smoking, girlfriend beating, gun-wielding douchebag of the Nationals.  I'd be shocked if Hendry hasn't already contacted his agent...

To be fair, only one of these things is bad.
This is so bad, I'd root for the Orioles over this fucking team, but I can't. Because they're a fucking drug and you can't kick it and they'll never win anything and they'll always suck, but it'll always be sunny at Wrigley and there will be tits and ivy and an old scoreboard and fucking Chads.

So it looks like the bullpen is going to be full of young whippersnappers this year. Works for me. I'm sick of watching talentless old bastards like Howry and Heilman out there.

QuoteBullpen: Justin Berg and Esmailin Caridad are in, leaving four vying for one spot. Of course, as Piniella says, "assuming we don't do anything" via trade.

The four are lefties James Russell and John Gaub and right-handers Marcos Mateo and Mike Parisi.

Anyone I should prefer here? I remember hearing good things about Gaub last season, never heard of the other guys.

As for the rotation, it looks like Sloth and the cancerous lump known as Silva will start the season on the anus of the rotation.

QuoteThe fourth and fifth spots are open, although it appears lefty Tom Gorzelanny and right-hander Carlos Silva are the leaders right now. That puts lefty  Sean Marshall and right-hander  Jeff Samardzija in the bullpen.

Finally, GOD. DAMMIT.

QuoteRight now, it seems to be races between Kevin Millar and Chad Tracy for an infield spot and  Sam Fuld and Tyler Colvin for an outfield spot.

I get your excitement for the bullpen. It's the same kind of excitement Jim Hendry gets when he feels a tingle in his left arm. Is it a heart attack? A stroke? Both? Can't wait to find out.
