It Could Be Worse...

Since being a Cubs fan is most often a joyless, unrewarding, punch-you-in-the-balls experience, I figured there should be a thread to remind us that it could be worse.

Example 1: The 2010 D-Backs

1. The 2010 D-Backs have now gone 31 straight innings without scoring a single run. Not only scoreless, they haven't even gotten a runner to third base in this stretch.

2. The D-Backs have given up 88 home runs this season, the next highest is the Orioles with 63.

3. The D-Backs not only have the worst team ERA in baseball (5.79) but the bullpen has an ERA of around 7.70 (I don't know a site where they have this stat, but it's by far the worst in the league).

4. Aaron Heilman is by a vast margin their best bullpen pitcher.

So yeah, they paid a shit-ton of money in 2001 and won a World Series, and maybe they cut Bobby Howry a week or two ago (from the aforementioned pathetic bullpen) and then the Cubs picked him up but all things considered...it could be worse.

That whole thing played out way better than it very likely could have.  Galarraga was unbelievably cool about the blown call, and Jim Joyce sounded like he was about to cry when he was talking after the game.

No, but I'm sure the Cubs can bring in Milt Pappas to sing the 7th Inning stretch one game, and have him sit in for a couple of innings on both radio and TV and make it feel like it's 1972 all over again.
