Which former Padre will pitch again?

It's not looking good for Jake Peavy.
Quote
Peavy, who said the surgery would be performed Wednesday at Rush Presbyterian hospital in Chicago, vowed to pitch again.

"I hope to be up and throwing by spring training," Peavy said. "My future is not in jeopardy."

Nothing that few major-league pitchers have sustained this kind of injury, Peavy said,  "It's kind of uncharted territory. ... I guess I'm a guinea pig."

I don't care if it makes me sound like a common Yellon, I'd be happy if Mark Prior came back and pitched effectively in the majors.  I know it's not happening, but I'm still dreaming.

If he doesn't come back and win a Cy Young and World Series for the Cubs I'm going to be depressed.

"According to Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com, the Orioles have interest in Mark Prior.

The O's sent scout Mark Ralston to watch Prior throw for major league teams on June 30, but they believe that he prefers to remain on the West Coast. That may be true, but he can hardly afford to pick and choose his next opportunity given the fact that he hasn't thrown a pitch in the majors since 2006."

Go figure.

Gotta love Andy MacPhail, resurrecting one dead Cub after another.

Is it wrong to sort of wish the Cubs would take a flyer on him?

At this point? Why the hell not? It'll be a hell of a toboggan ride.

What makes you think Prior would want to come back?
I think he's more of the appendix of Desipio.  Yeah, it's here and you're vaguely aware of it, but only if reminded.  The only time anyone notices it is when it ruptures (on Weebs in the video game thread).  Beyond that, though, it's basically useless and offers no redeeming value.

What makes you think Prior would want to come back?

1) The Cubs are in the Major Leagues.
2) Their checks clear.
3) Negotiating something "fair" with the Cubs' front office seems to be easier done than said.

On the other hand:

1) He's a cunt.
2) He's probably still asshurt about the way the first relationship ended.
3) He's a cunt.

Hey it was only yesterday (4 years ago in 13 days) that he was no-hitting the Mets. Of course, he lasted only 5 2/3 because his fingers were tired.
