Not that they were actually looking to sign him, but another big free agent is gone:
Jayson Werth. 7 years $126 million

Something nonsensical about Soriano's contract.

This might not happen at all.  If Gonzalez can get to free agency he can have lots of teams to work off each other and get a deal above and beyond what Ryan Howard and Teixiera got.  Then again, the Red Sox just offered him $120 million and his signing arm is in a sling.  Him and his agent better hope he's actually going to get healthy.

By the way, the Cubs outfield is going to look like it has three in-his-prime Torii Hunter's in it compared to the Berkman-Rasmus-Holiday troika in St. Louis.  The Berkman signing would have been a great one, five years, 40 pounds and no drug testing ago.

Schadenfreude---every time I think about Holiday letting that easy fly bounce off of his glove.
If I had known that I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself.   (Plagerized from numerous other folks)

Well, then, the contract IS worth more than the paper it's printed on, no?

Meh?

Good average, decent OBP, not much in the way of slugging.  Averages about 10-12 HR a year and Ks a good bit.

ETA:  He's under 100 K/year in every season so far.  His highest total was 95 last year.  He walks about half as much as he Ks.  He's also only 26.

Kinda glad the Cubs aren't dishing out tard money. I guess baseball is immune to these economic problems I keep hearing about.

Since you didn't include the team and I'm too lazy for the black link I'm just assuming it's the Yankees.

Jeez, about the only people I wouldn't be willing to trade Snork and Grabow for are Snork and Grabow.
