The Cubs are apparently showing some interest in Brandon Webb

http://mlb.fanhouse.com/2010/11/27/cubs-have-interest-in-brandon-webb/?ncid=txtlnkusspor00000002

So the Cubs are going after a guy who hasn't pitched in two years and is coming off a shoulder injury? This team will be lucky to get an inning for every million dollars they pay him.

I wouldn't hate a Brandon Webb signing as long as it's not a five year, $155 MM no trade clause type thing.

Also, the Carlos Pena talk...I don't hate it.

Do you like Pena if it's a 3 year deal and prevents the Cubs from bidding on Adrian Gonzalez?

I would prefer one year of Fat Lantz Berkman. Call me a SELLOUT but that's what I think they should do.

I also endorse this Apex post.

Guess it's time to get started on that soon-to-be un-updated blog.

I can get behind Fat Lance (insert Fork Joke Here) for one year.  Hell, it does it really matter who is at first next year?

Did the Yanks offer Fat Lance arbitration? If so, DLee might be even cheaper for 1 more year.

D Lee would also suck.  Then again, it doesn't really matter.

It's a pretty terrible spot for the Cubs. For those not wanting to see Fat Lance or Pena, what would they do? There's no one that can really play 1st in the organization right now. Certainly not Nady or Colvin. Nady might not even be back.

There's really no way to come out looking good at first base. I just hope Jim gives a year or two at most to the guy he chooses.

I wouldn't mind that at all, either.

It does matter. If the guy they sign isn't the answer longterm but works out well in the interim he can be dealt at that deadline. Please pick up your things and leave.

I was referring to the team's record in 2011.  But, if you are looking at acquiring guys so Hendry can dump them in July, then you don't seem to know the Jim Hendry historical track record.

So having a decent first sacker over a shitty one won't affect the record? Incorrect. Your point about Hendry is a fair one but everybody here already understands that. Your belaboring it does nothing to advance the Fake Interweb GM Fun Time we're trying to have and only makes me not like your internet self even more than usual. It's victory Monday. Having a decent first sacker won't affect their record enough to matter given the deficiencies in too many other places.

But you knew this and are just being argumentative. Why don't you go hang with the President.  I hear he recommends your usual lunches.
