New pitching coach is...http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/12/riggins-named-cubs-pitching-coach.html

Another promotion from within.  Have the Cubs hired anyone from outside the organization since the team was sold?

I guess, 'We got the ingredients, Dad. We got the management and we got the players, so we've got the ingredients to win a World Series.'"

Yes, but not in the last couple of weeks.

What is the sale date and what date did they sign Rudy?

If only there existed some place where you could find that information quickly and easily.

Muskrat reporting that Cubs are close to 1-year, $10 million deal with Pena.

Seems hard to believe that Hendry could somehow make this come to fruition with only 1 year on the table, but if that's true, it seems like a relatively not-horrible move.
I was pushing for LaRoche when I figured he could be had for 1/$6 versus 3/$30 for Pena, but if Pena's stock is so low that he's willing to sign a 1-year deal, then it's probably worth the minimal risk just in case he can somehow manage to not be a completely gutless fucking .196 asshole.

The third option seems to be trading prospects for Chris Davis with the hopes that he'll re-find his stroke being reunited with Rudy Jaramillo, but anyone who couldn't hit in that Rangers lineup last year seems destined to not hit surrounded by the 2011 Cubs slapdicks.

Though really the best part of the article is when Carrie points out that the meetings are taking place at the "Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin Hotel".

Kudos bar to Hendry. This is exactly the kind of deal us morans always advocate but he never listens to us. Although I guess it's possible we could find out it's a one year deal with 6 player option years at $12 million each.

Now we just need to convince him to quit.

He might be thinking, a one-year to get him in Chicago, then he'll sign the nut-crushing extension next season after some of the larger contracts expire.

This move isn't horrible. Clearly all bad contracts were designed behind the scenes by Larry Rothschild.

I'll save my feelings on extending him until actually seeing him play 100 games in a Cub uniform.  But a one year deal on a guy who hit .196, but has been good in the past is a good deal.  Especially when you have no other options for the position.

He can field the position fairly well if I'm not mistaken. I'm sure he'll have a terrible April and the Wrigley morons will be clamoring for Hendry to get that kid Hoffpauir back from Japan.
