Dempster antics, Peavy bluster, paeans to CLUBHOUSE CHEMISTRY and tragedy-motivates-athletes porn. Drink it all in and then join me in rooting for a Rays sweep.

QuoteJust last week, there were 23 Red Sox players, and three coaches, who spent their off day in Denver hanging out at the Denver Broncos-Oakland Raiders Monday Night Football game. They walked the sidelines. They cheered from their club level seats. They went out to Morton's steakhouse for dinner after the game.

In the wee hours of the morning, guys were still in pitcher Jake Peavy's hotel suite as the recently-acquired pitcher played his guitar.

QuoteThis is the same group of guys that have had as many as 10 team dinners on the road this year, and never did fewer than 20 players show up. There's a group of at least eight players who hang together in someone's hotel room after games, drinking beer, munching down, and telling stories.

And, yes, they're certainly not afraid to make fun of themselves, with newcomer Ryan Dempster brining boxes of Popeye's chicken to Fenway Park in September, yelling out:

"I've got the chicken, now who's got the beer?''

QuoteThe Red Sox, who brought in six new free-agent faces and strong clubhouse personalities, had a chemistry makeover that could become the biggest trendsetter in baseball since the one-inning save.

"For people to tell me that clubhouse chemistry and personality doesn't matter,'' Peavy told USA TODAY Sports, "is an absolute joke. I'll fight you with every last dying breath on that.

We brine our turkey at Thanksgiving before we roast it, but I never thought of brining whole boxes of Popeye fried chicken.  This guy Dempster is really innovative.

I didn't read the article, but if it's based on the quotes you pulled out, I'm not sure what the problem is.

I'm more concerned that Bob Nightengale is suggesting that domestic terrorism might be the best way to bring a baseball team together.

No, I'm rooting against them because Dempster and Peavy are annoying. That's not my main reason for posting the article though. It was because the author and article are bad.

Gentlemen, I give you... Chet Coppock's son.

QuoteBut Jay Cutler is by no means an innocent party. In 2010 he was brought in to interview Mike Martz for the offensive coordinator position and signed off with his approval. Two years later Jay Cutler got his wish and had Martz fired. Last year the Bears promoted from within and made Mike Tice offensive coordinator. Cutler approved. The Bears missed the playoffs and Tice shouldered the blame for a mediocre scoring attack. Cuter sympathizers will harp all day long about instability and Jay having to learn new playbooks. Newsflash: If he would perform the offense correctly, he wouldn't need new coordinators.

...

Cutler is just good enough to keep you in games, but not good enough to win big games. He's a scout's dream and practice Pro Bowler. That's all he is and all he'll ever be, you know?

That's a fun interpretation of the facts. Martz was flown down to meet with Jay and Jay did give his approval...after Jeremy Bates, Jay's choice and their other top two candidates had already said no to working for who they thought was a lame duck coach. Jay was also never involved in the process of hiring Tice. He said he approved after the fact because my God they'd have killed him if he said he didn't.
I will vow, for the sake of peace, not to complain about David Ross between now and his first start next year- 10/26/2015

From St. Louis Today as seen on Deadspin:

"We're spoiled, really. Watching postseason baseball and experiencing the thrills and the triumphs of October is no longer a privilege in St. Louis. It is a way of life, a part of the cityscape, and a cherished tradition that rarely fails to raise spirits and cause hearts to flutter.

This is St. Louis, the best baseball town in America. This is the home of the Cardinals, an iconic franchise that stands above most others that have occupied a place in our national pastime."
