So where you you stand on taking out catchers?
« on: May 27, 2011, 12:02:15 PM »
Here in Buster Poseyland we are aghast at the idea of running into a catcher who is blocking the plate and attempting to keep a runner from scoring.  Unless, of course, the runner is wearing a Giant's uniform.

(Just thought that it was time for a baseball thread that wasn't about firing the Rickets and Jim Hendry.)

I fucking hated the Dodgers as a kid, but always sort of admired Mike Scioscia for his penchant for taking hits.  Let 'em play.
Just a sloppy, undisciplined team.  Garbage.

I have to be honest, Mike: from whence does this intense Dodgers' hate spring? There were several other teams to hate more than the Dodgers in the 70s and 80s:

Mets
Cardinals
Phillies
Reds
Pirates
Expos
Padres
Giants

The only team one I'd rank higher, on first sight (as far as my rooting interests in the mid 80's) are the Mets.

I fucking hate Tommy Lasorda.

No way.  The Dodgers were the worst.  Except for the Cardinals, of course.
Can you help me live a little more?  I expect good news.

What is the reason for allowing collisions at home?  Is it because runners can run through the plate?  Why aren't there collisions at the other bases?  Do take out slides at second on double plays count as collisions?

I don't really care either way.  I don't really know any better or wiser than the game I see everyday, so if they want to play football at homeplate I say let them.

No collisions at any other base?

If you don't want to get dumptrucked, don't block the plate. Pretty fucking simple.

Now, as far as taking out specific catchers, I'd start with A.J. Eyechart.

And regarding the 80s, Fuck the Mets and Fuck the Cardinals.
