I wasn't sure if I wanted to be so bitchy, but someone has to keep the standards for "rocking a dick off" higher than middlebrow Starbucks music.

meh. Their studio stuff may be kind of calm and all. The last two albums have some great, fun, quick songs. Also, their live shows, extremely fun, energetic, and fast paced.

I mean, I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but just throwing it out at "middlebrow Starbucks music" is short selling it.

Also, their album debuted at #4, so I kind of get the dislike

Now I won't get into the whole Avett thing, but it was a great concert.  Not only did they "rock out", but Northerly Island is by far the best outdoor concert venue around and probably top 3 venue in Chicago.
