I was really excited when the Cubs managed to get value for the separate Mel Rojas and Todd Hundley deals. But again, that's like breaking your own leg and then being lucky enough to have the tools to fix it.

I haven't been this excited about a GM since the Cubs hired Dallas Green.

Here's hoping he scraps the organization and rebuilds with a philosophy toward getting hitters who get on base and pitchers who throw stikes and get guys out.

It might just be crazy enough to work.

This situation is a lot like the one the Cubs were in when Green was hired. The way the team was operating under Wrigley clearly wasn't working and a complete makeover of the way the franchise operated was necessary. That same level of change is required now. Epstein has the chance to do just that and hopefully last longer than Green did.
