OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

If only Twitter were around for the Denkenger game in '85.  You think Gamergate's got some maladjusted psychos?
Just a sloppy, undisciplined team.  Garbage.

This is so wonderfully perfect.

Hat tip to Slak for RT'ing it into my timeline.

If I only I had confidence this would never be Ricky, but whatever...I'm laughing now.
I can't believe I even know these people. I'm ashamed of my internet life.

You want me to waste my best reliever in the ninth inning of a tied elimination game? Don't make me laugh.

On one hand I'm terrified of Renteria managing games that matter. On the other, I'm pretty sure there won't be any.

Ok, so maybe it's because I was marginally watching most of the year, but can someone actually tell me occasions where he flubbed up shit?

To address the second sentence, you think they'll fire him either this offseason or next?

I think it mostly stems from his Yostian penchant for bunting.

Did he have Castro, Rizzo, Soler or Baez bunt? Or some of the other half-a-WAR slapdicks he was saddled with? I, like Yeti, marginally paid attention when the good players weren't batting. So what gives? I remember a lot of hand-wringing around here about double switches that I didn't understand either. I need at least semi-accurate anecdotal evidence if I'm going to develop any butthurt over Ricky. Right now, I think he's a guy.

I watched a fair bit of Cubs baseball in August and September and Ricky seemed quite happy to let Castro, Rizzo, Soler and Baez play.  Indeed, by and large he seems pretty laissez-faire all round, although it's easy to be that way when the pressure is off.  Nonetheless, I can't immediately remember an incidence of bone-headed management, and God knows, after Dusty, we all know one when we see one.

According to B-R, they attempted 81 (7th most) of them (sacrifice bunts, that is), at a 70% success rate (LgAvg).

Interestingly enough, the Royals had 54, which is 10 less than the league average.

Counterpoint: "Ricky calls for them at shitty times". http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/all-that-ned-yost-bunting-has-helped-the-royals/

QuoteI took the additional step of leaving out pitcher bunts because many pitcher bunts are perfectly reasonable.

I got lazy with the table formatting, so the relevant information:

Royals, 1st with 1.0 WPA from non pitcher bunts.
Cubs, last with -.9 WPA from non pitcher bunts

I'm fine with hating him if there's clear information saying he's a terrible manager. I just want that information presented as opposed to a vague fear of him managing "games that matter"
