How do you remember the cadence of a Michael Jordan fart from the second quarter of Game 3 of the 1989 Eastern Conference Finals, but not Sammy winning the MVP over McGwire?

For some reason I thought maybe I misremembered and they gave the award to McGwire.  Honest mistake.

And Dawson finished in last place.

Related to that point, Sutcliffe narrowly lost out to Steve Bedrosian for NL Cy Young in '87.  IIRC it was the closest voting for the award in ages, too (if not ever).  So the Cubs came thatclose to netting both an MVP and Cy Young Award Winner from the same last-place team.

I have a really dumb question, but does a HBP affect OBP? Like, do you get credit for it? What about reaching on an error?

It counts. Same as a walk. A PA but not an AB.

Basically what SKO said -- ROE would reduce OBP as it counts as an AB. Although PAs don't enter the equation. A sac bunt (SH) counts as a PA, but they're ignored from the OBP calculation since it's (usually) not up to the hitter to lay down a bunt.

(H + BB + HBP) / (AB + BB + HBP + SF)

And a quick mention of him letting the infield popup drop to get the double play against Harvey.  And Fowler's base running gaffe aside, it is really fun to watch the Cubs play aggressive yet fundamentally good baseball.
