This is going to be such a let down.

Not sure but back on topic for a sec--until now I hadn't actually seen Rizzo's first HR on Saturday.  Kind of sweet that it followed a two-out, opposite field single by Starlin, and way awesome that he nearly hit out on to Sheffield-- a more difficult task than reaching the streets in left-- but I confess to being slightly uncomfortable with his pose/strut.  I mean, I don't mind rooting for a douche if it means a championship, but given a choice, I'd likelike for my guys not to be douches.  Tell me what a prick I'm being.

Only hitters on the 40 man roster not in the majors are David Bote (a utility field with 37 career games at 1B) and Mark Zagunis (an outfielder that caught his first year in the minors). They appear to have 2 40 man slots available, though

But I'm actually glad they DL'd Rizzo. With the ten day DL, the day off yesterday, and the cold weather he was probably not going to play much this week anyway even if he did start to feel better. Free up the bench spot and let him actually rest it and have him back by the time the Cardinals roll into town.

Just pointing out that he's rarely been out of the lineup. Until now, he hasn't missed any significant time since 2014, when he was out for the first half of September - with a mild back strain.

It would be easier for you to find instances on this shit-for-brains site where it's suggested he could use a day or two off.

Caratini looks competent enough to fill in once every couple of weeks for Tony, which I think would help. He's not old but in baseball years he's also not young anymore and the team would probably benefit from him not averaging 155 games a year or whatever he's averaged other than 2014. Keeping him healthy and effective for October (he admitted he was tired in 2016 and that's why he switched to Szczur's lighter bat in the NLCS and then last October he looked...not great) should be a goal.
