Apestink is terrible.
« on: August 21, 2012, 11:09:17 AM »
Part One:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/football-insider/post/brian-orakpo-brandon-meriweather-injured-in-first-quarter/2012/08/18/3d213544-e997-11e1-936a-b801f1abab19_blog.html

QuoteWashington Redskins outside linebacker Brian Orakpo went down with an injury to his left shoulder late in the first quarter of his team's preseason matchup with the Chicago Bears on Saturday night.

Shortly after Orakpo's injury, safety Brandon Meriweather was helped off the field with a leg injury.

Orakpo tried to tackle Bears wideout Devin Hester after Hester made a catch in the flat. But as Orakpo stretched out his left arm to grab Hester, the receiver spun off Orakpo, stretching his arm backward, and then turned up field. Orakpo fell to the ground and grabbed his left arm. Trainers tended to him before he was helped off the field and taken to the trainers' table behind Washington's bench.

I'm also hoping that Hester will finally become a productive wide receiver in his fifth season of playing the position, at age 30.

You just said it. 5th year playing the position. Other NFL wideouts have played position for 6-8 years before they even make it to the NFL. It's his time now. If he doesn't do it this year, he never will, and I'll shut up, take my medicine. It'll be fine.

But with P'Nut in the Pro Bowl it's time for a new cause. A new mission. I've got to get Devin the ball more often.

10 total receptions in 3 years of college.

I can't find any high school stats (just this scouting report) but little mention of any significant WR experience there.

I don't think he's ever going to be a good NFL WR, or even really a passable one, but it's at least a reasonable point being made here.

Your mission is to get more touches for the 4th receiver?  If Hester catches 15 balls this year and takes 2 or 3 of them to the house because he's going to be covered by the modern-day equivalent of John Mangum, I'll be more than satisfied.

I'm fine with the Bears using Hester they way they used him in the last game. Let him rotate with Jeffery between the 20s so you can occasionally go deep to him, then let Jeffery take all the snaps in the red zone where route running is less important and "go up and get the fucking ball" is everything.
I will vow, for the sake of peace, not to complain about David Ross between now and his first start next year- 10/26/2015
