This is as good a response as you're going to see to Florio's retardery.

Mike Florio is an idiot.

QuoteIt's a thorny issue.  My position was and is that the players have made a lifestyle choice that entails being available 16 days per year, no matter what.  If they choose not to plan their nine-month family expansion activities to coincide with the eight months per year when their work activities don't entail playing games that count, why should their teams suffer the consequences?

God damn it.  I read that article, and then I made the mistake of reading the comments.  What the hell is wrong with people?

Anyway, here's my favorite comment:

QuoteRoger Goodell is turning the NFL players soft. There is absolutely nothing tough about Roger Goodell. The NFL we used to know will never be the same. Most players would still rather die than not play on Sunday. But nowadays in the NFL and out here in regular society there is a group of people with what i call "A false sense of entitlement". They want the accolades and the money and the stardom but they don't want to do squat to get it. My old 83 year old daddy says anything worth having is worth working for. I believe that and most other people do too. But there are some now that are just lazy. And Goodells girly policies and bounty and spy-gate witch hunts has damaged the moral compass of some players. Geaux Saints!

DPD.  I think Tillman might have the best Twitter avatar out there.

I can't stand the thought that Tillman's career with the Bears is likely over. Even if he's re-signed, it's clear that he's in fairly and understandably rapid decline. As with nearly every football player, the last memory we'll have of Tillman won't be a good one. Torched for a devastating touchdown by one of the great receivers he was well-known for competing against, I'll always have him trailing the play behind Megatron last Sunday.

And I hate it. Charles Tillman eventually overtook every other Bears player besides Sweetness in my book of favorites. Cutler, Urlacher, Mike Brown, Singletary, Dent, McMahon, Fridge, Anderson... None compare to P'Nut for me.

Allow me to finish off this thread with my favorite Tillman moments - saved here for posterity.

5. The strip and recovery in the Super Bowl. Elation, people. I just about lost my fucking shit permanently. If Grossman didn't give the fucking ball right back on the next God damn.... Fuck.

4. Jeff Garcia, pick-6 in overtime at Detroit 2005.

3. 95-yard return off of Brett Favre just before the half at Soldier Field the same year.

2. Scoop and score at Arizona in the Denny Green game. Combined with another by Brown (who I could do another of these lists for) that play started the comeback.

1. For all time's sake: Fuck you.

I know the Pro Bowl doesn't really mean anything, but the fact that it took as long as it did for Peanut to finally make one is enough to make me run through a brick wall.  Figuratively.

What can you say? BC and FroDog have a lot of pull with Pro Bowl voters.

I still don't really know what that perennial snub was all about. Maybe voters saw him as a Cover-2 corner who didn't have to do much but sit back, wait for guys to make a catch and then knock their balls out for them. Oh and also help out against the run. And if it's not too much trouble, take the biggest, baddest, strongest receivers in the history of the game and dong-whip the shit out of them until they cry and just forego the formalities by avoiding the ball altogether. Nevermind that the rules regarding pass defense make the shut-down corner in the traditional sense a non-thing.

Or maybe he was overshadowed by more famous teammates like Urlacher, Briggs, Peppers, Tommie Harris and Mike Brown. The Vasher selection in 2005 was horse shit though. Horse shit.

At least the world now knows what the fuck the deal was. And I take great pride in the part I had to play in that cultural awakening.
