I'm interested to see how you think the large market teams would agree to more revenue sharing than they already give.

I dunno if they'd agree.  I just know if I were the owner of a small market team who can't get that kind of cash I'd either ask for more revenue from the big guys or I'd sell.

The NFL model of revenue sharing works very well.  All a team gets to keep 100% is nearly limited it's radio money, stadium advertising, and skybox leasing revenue (not the tickets themselves). TV and gate is 100% shared.  This MLB deal is eventually going to require that kind of sharing or teams are going to go out of business.

I don't think any owners will be eating catsup sandwiches just yet.

NFL and MLB TV coverage are not really comparable.

Unless you plan on having TBS, Fox and ESPN broadcast 2,430 regular season baseball games a year.

In news worthy of "on another note", the Cubs have hired Rob Deer as assistant hitting coach.

Hopefully his coaching method is showing guys film of his 1409 career strikeouts over 11 seasons, and just says, "See that? Yeah, don't do that."

Why would it take tape of all 1409 strikeouts to do that?  Wouldn't one be enough?

Mind blowing.  Deer may be a nice guy, but who would take him seriously when he advocates plate discipline?  By the way.  What the hell does an assistant hitting coach do?

Or you could be the Pirates' owners and profit nicely from revenue sharing monies that aren't reinvested in salaries and a winning team.  Any increase in revenue sharing is going to have to come with a relatively high floor for team salaries to prevent this sort of leeching.

Striking out like Rob Deer is not what I was led to believe the Cubs Way would be about.  Epstink is terrible.

Rob Deer says:

"I don't teach the way I hit. I understand how to hit .300. I know what it takes. We tell the guys to be selectively aggressive. We want that to be their approach. We tell them 'Be patiently aggressive.' That's our motto. What does it mean? If you get a good pitch to hit and you take it, that's your fault. We don't ever want to take aggressiveness away. But, we don't want to swing at bat pitches, either. I'll be the first to admit I don't want them to hit like I did."

The Cubs should be all over this with Garza, though maybe his injury last year ruined any chance of this type of deal.

QuoteThe Royals have discussed dealing outfielder Wil Myers, one of the highest regarded prospects in baseball, to the Red Sox or Rays in an attempt to find an ace, according to The Kansas City Star's Bob Dutton.

The Royals and Red Sox have discussed a trade involving Myers going to Boston for left-handed starting pitcher Jon Lester. They have also discussed dealing Myers to the Rays for right-handed starting pitcher James Shields.
