NO.

The Chi (Shy) is actually acceptable Chicago slang, used by Common and others known for influencing the local vernacular. If you need somebody off your lawn or whatever, than do what you gotta do, but just know that this is technically correct usage and you're the asshole.

No, Apex from Columbuttfuck, Indiana.

Yes, Slaky from whatever cornfield north of the city you trudged out of with your feet all muddy.

I'm not claiming to know anything that wasn't written down over 15 years ago.

The Chi is the dumbest fucking thing you can call this city.

Racists.

Though if you want to argue that white people like Ryan Freel using black people slang is fucking stupid, I won't argue with you and will continue to modulate my own speech around you guys (my white non-hip hop friends).

Anyway, it was a typo.  He meant to write "chai".  Perfectly appropriate, even if it isn't accurate.

Actually, it wasn't even Freel who used that term back when it first angered up the buttnerves of some our denizens, but some horrible blogger they were trolling at the time. He may have been black for all I know.

You think that was bad?  Just try saying "Frisco" around here.

I understand that the locals unanimously despise that term because it's one used by tourists who don't know dick about dick. I'm actually pointing out a very local origin - can't get any more so in my mind - of "The Chi" and it's angering up the butts of the Chicago by way of Peoria literati from Elk Grove Village all the way to Rockford. It's great internet fun.

Fixed to muscle up my literati cred.

Probably. And that's how hip hop slang works. Even if Malik Yusef was the first person to ever utter the phrase, "The Chi" on his fantastic spoken-word contribution to Common's seminal 1997 LP "One Day It Will All Make Sense," it's in the fabric now, boys. And I hear my friends from the South Side say it all the time.

So I went to the school of hard knock
On the hard blocks of the Chi
Even I, think about moving out to River Oaks
As my liver soaks
In mad Hennesy
Cause I have a bad tendency

OK...so, perhaps, depending on the rhythm if the track, he may have been using it to save a syllable?

Similar to when Yusef sang "Tea For the Tillerman" and was actually referring to Teaneck, New Jersey.

I laughed. And laughed.

Makes more sense for the cubs to trade for Porcello, now that the Tigers won't need him.
He's much cheaper.

Why? He's worse and will cost prospects. Sanchez just costs money.

Exactly.

It's too bad this makes the Cubs look bad even though they did nothing wrong.

Au contraire. This makes them look good. They are making prudent moves, and had this one worked, it would have been as much for the future as for today.

Look out for people despondently jumping into the harbor in Boston. Look at what they're doing: overpaying for what's left of Shane Victorino and Mike Napoli before bringing in the Nobel Prize Winner for Chemistry today. They ran Epstink out of town for this clown show?

The general perception is the Cubs fucked up another deal when the reality is they made an aggressive offer ahead of the perceived timeline. They made Detroit spend a lot more money than they wanted to. The Sox should be pretty happy about this.

I agree with you TJ in that this is actually very good news, kind of shows their hand a little. And yes, Boston is just a complete joke. They're in for a lot of hurt.

Sanchez would have been a nice pickup, but hardly a game changer.

By the end of this deal the Cubs would be contenders, but it seemed a little odd to pay $15MM/per for a starting pitcher at this point in the rebuild.

I agree with your first thought - would have been nice (maybe really nice) but this isn't a huge miss.

I think the reason why it's not that odd, is that next year's crop of free agent starters is old and shitty. Phil Hughes is the only guy under 30. So not signing a 2/3 starter like Sanchez means you'll need to use prospects next winter to trade for someone with similar value, instead of signing Sanchez and using those resources to fill other needs.

Isn't it pathetic when the biggest news for the Cubs in the off season is about a player that the Cubs didn't get?
If I had known that I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself.   (Plagerized from numerous other folks)

Epstink is terrible. Doesn't he understand that Chuck's plan calls for them to lose 115 games?

If I'd known he was going to sign Jackson, I wouldn't have been so positive on their winning percentage.

Could someone explain to me why the hip kids on the internet are crapping on this signing? Should the Cubs only pursue superstars in free agency?

It's a good signing. By the time the Cubs are ready to go for it, he'll be their 4th best starter, ideally. Worst case scenario (if he signs) is that he eats up all the innings that fucking Jermaine Hambone would have pitched last year.
