BALCO Client List or 2013 HOF Ballot?
« on: November 28, 2012, 12:21:04 PM »
There are 7 ex-Cubs on the ballot, 8 if you count bench coach Alan Trammel. There are also no fewer than 15 linked to PED use by rumors, facts, innuendo or my perception.

Anyway, who do you vote for? Do you discount those who were quite obviously roided up? Do you just go with the 10 best available?

Pretty sure he changed his name to Giancarlo.

I went for Mattingly, Smith, Schilling, Morris and Biggio. You only get 10 votes. I decided that if I could vote for as many as I could, I'd go for Bagwell, McGwire, Palmeiro, Bonds, Clemens, Piazza, Sosa, and maybe Larry Walker, Dale Murphy, Tim Raines and Alan Trammel. It's a crowded ballot, so the maybes are eliminated. It's not the Hall of Very Good. If I let the roid guys in along with Mattingly, Smith, Schilling, Morris and Biggio, that's 12 names.

The feeling here is that the Mattinglys, Biggios, Lee Smiths, etc. of the world are going to be rewarded at the expense of Sammy, Barry, Roger and McGwire. You could have a very crowded dais.

Since we'll never know for sure everyone who was clean, I tried to remove that filter.

Therefore: Bagwell, Smith, Raines, McGwire, Murphy, Bonds, Sosa and Clemens get my vote.

I have no good reason for not voting for Palmeiro and Biggio except other than personal dislike.

And fuck Curt Schilling for everything he's done post-baseball.

Obviously, I'd cast a vote for Todd Walker. But the choices really drop off from there.

Who the hell is (was) Aaron Sele?

How dare you forget the ace of the Rangers' staff in the late 1990s when they won the division title a couple times?

He also was a solid starter on Lou Piniella's 2000 and 2001 Mariners before winning a World Series with the Angels in 2002. He was inexplicably left off the Halos' postseason roster despite his sparkling 0-6 postseason record.

He then bounced from Anaheim to the Dodgers to Seattle to the Mets the rest of his career. Somehow, he escaped the clutches of Jim Hendry all those years.

DPD...

Same list minus Bagwell.  I also added Biggio, Schilling, and Palmeiro.

So, not the same list at all.

He underwent rotator cuff surgery in 2003, but was still on a contract with the Angels at the time.

That Hendry never catches a break.

Nice choice, Jim!
