The Cubs may not be going anywhere this season (although with a 370/377 RS/RA ratio, they're one hammering by the Angels away from being a de facto .500 team), but beating (and blanking) the Tards never, ever gets old.

Also, I was very sorry to see noted gentleman Matt Holliday pull up with a sore hamstring.  I do hope he gets better soon.

It was heartening to see that Mike Matheny can be as big of assclown as his predecessor as well. Eat a bag of dicks, Mike.

Both the American and National league All-Star teams this season are testaments to the significance of prospect evaluation. Of the 78 players who earned All-Star recognition, more than half were acquired by their current team through the draft (35), an international singing (four) or a trade while still in the minor leagues (eight).

The draft has taken on additional significance in recent years, and for good reason. Thirty-five All-Stars were taken by their current team in the draft. That includes 20 first-round picks, with two top overall picks (Joe Mauer and Bryce Harper), three No. 2 picks, a No. 3, a No. 5 and three sevens. (The No. 7 pick, which the Red Sox used last month on pitcher Trey Ball, boasts the most alums at the All-Star Game, if we count Prince Fielder alongside Matt Harvey, Clayton Kershaw and Troy Tulowitzki.)
