I'm excited to see Jim Schwartz get fired. I really hope they fuck up the next hire because Schwartz, while disappointing to Lions fans, is still the best thing they've had since the disappointing Wayne Fontes.

I wish there was some way they could still get a Wild Card, save his phony baloney jorb and get their ugly asses to Soldier Field for the first round. His firing could be the worst thing that happens to the Bears. But then I thought that the Rod Marinelli hiring was bad news. Mariucci as well. Sooner or later they have to get one right don't they? Do they?  Has the Lions front office turned over?  From what I recall, after Millen was fired, his lieutenants were basically left in place to run the team and perpetuate the Millen Brand.  Has this changed?

I am proud to say that the day Matt Millen was hired I was actively excited that the Lions were, in my mind, rendered moot for the next half-decade.  Those 5 + years only validated my hubris.  I didn't know much about Schwartz when he was hired but Slaky's right--this is the closest they've come to not sucking since Fontes.  Good times.

This is exactly what happened. Mayhew was promoted from interim GM to full time GM because he swindled the Cowboys out of some picks in exchange for Roy E. Williams. Then thanks to him admittedly doing better than Millen at "not fucking up the #1 and #2 overall picks in consecutive years" the Lions got Stafford to play catch with Megatron and Suh to serve as the bedrock of an aggressively shitty defense and so there was a core just good enough to make Mayhew look like he knew what he was doing.
