I almost got the Oktoberfest the other day, but found some Rogue Dead Guy and nabbed it instead.

It's better in the half-gallon jug. Because it allows you to practice playing the jug.

The electric jug?

Costco has cases of Paulaner and Hofbrau for octoberfest. Good times had by all. Sam Adams octoberfest also surprised me, is actually a good beer. Spaten is the king still.

Am I a homer for liking Sam Adams' offerings?

No.

I almost got the Oktoberfest the other day, but found some Rogue Dead Guy and nabbed it instead.  Is SA's Oktoberfest decent?

I drink it.

I always look forward to the SA Oktoberfest; it's phenomenal.

Woah ho. Take it easy, big shooter.

BH, what is wrong with you, man?  You're an intelligent, switched-on, likeable sort of a bloke.  But this?  This is the KING OF WRONG.

For future reference, I have attached below the München Helles Chart.  It is irrefutable :

Augustiner > Ayinger > Andechser > Paulaner > Hofbräu > Everything Else > Spaten.
Your toilet's broken, Dave, but I fixed it.

Your list seems more official than mine. I'll go with it. I'm wrong (although Spaten is still a great beer in my opinion).
At costco I went with Paulaner over everything they had.

I've had the Paulaner Heff and the Hofbrau Dunkel...I have no idea how to say it in fancy hipster speak, so I'll just say that these beers were delicious.

You know what was a good beer that I had one time, never to be had again (yet)?

Franziskaner's hefeweiss. I guess they're owned by Spaten so I'm sure I'm getting the look of disapproval from somewhere in Tulip World.

Weird, I also tried it once, enjoyed it well enough, but never had it again.

I've had it more than once, liked it more than once, and it's quite decent.

I had my first Hobgoblin on draft at a local tavern last night. Fucking tremendous dark English ale. I won't describe the taste because I was already drunk and just know that I loved what was happening in my mouth at the time.

To be fair to BH, pretty much any Münchener Helles is better than more or less any other lager beer that you can come up with, so Spaten is by no means a bad beer - it's just that Müncheners have so many other really *great* beers to choose from that almost nobody drinks it.  There's absolutely nothing wrong with Franziskaner Weizen at all - it's excellent... but it does give you the two-bob-bits if you drink enough of it.  My poor, tortured ricker endured the morning after one too many nights on the dunkelweiss when I first arrived in München, and I've been wary of it ever since.
