Is this supposed to evoke the days in which the Belgians only had really incompetent glassblowers?

By the way, "Kwak" is Dutch slang for sperm.  Which is nice.  What's also nice is that I just found this place, around ten minutes up the road from me.  What's that you say?  Why, yes - they DO have 173 dfferent beers, ten of which are on tap and change on a monthly basis, now you mention it.  Pretty sweet, huh?

No mention of Pabst Blue Ribbon. What do Dutch hipsters drink?

Heineken, natch.

They must be purged.

Extry!  Extry!  Readallabahdit!  Hipster named Wolter calls for eradication of all Dutch hipsters!

Eh, I haven't been hip in...well...ever.

These thick glasses? Due to me being a nerd.

Only the TRUE hipster denies being a hipster at all.

Goddamn it, can't I hate Heineken while wearing skinny jeans, a white belt, a palestinian scarf, and reading Pitchfork without getting called a hipster?

You sure can't call yourself a nerd if you don't validate my "Life of Brian" reference.

But he's wearing the scarf to show his solidarity with the Peoples' Front of Judea

I'm pretty sure they're the Judean People's Front.

Fuck off!

I am dismayed to learn that the wretched bastards at Magic Hat acquired Pyramid and flipped it to North American Breweries. The whole thing is an affront to apricot beer.

Perhaps, but apricot beer is an affront to beer.

FUCK YEAH LENT:

QuoteWorking to nourish their bodies through during the lengthy 46-day fast during Lent, the Paulaner monks of Neudeck ob der Au in Munich are credited with developing the doppelbock style of beer. Packed with carbohydrates, calories and vitamins, this unfiltered "liquid bread" sustained the monks from Ash Wednesday to Easter, and over 300 years later, the rich history and quality of this beer is well-known throughout the world.

With this in mind, I am embarking on a project to fast on doppelbock for the same 46-day stretch that the storied German monks once endured—and live to tell the tale. This will be no small undertaking. I will be working with both a doctor and a spiritual advisor as I attempt to tell the story of this facet of the monks' livelihood. Eventually, there will be a book.

I used to live about half a mile from the Paulaner Brewery in Munich.  I can't begin to tell you how fucking brilliant it was to have Starkbierfest within walking distance.  I miss Munich this time of year - there is a huge fucking party going on as we speak (Faschingsdienstag) and then everybody gets pished for a month or so.

They have a four pack of Unibroue at Trader Joe's right now for something like 7.99 a pack. It's a pretty solid deal for four beers over 8 percent. I think most people have tried their Fin du Monde but I had never had the Trois Pistoles. It was excellent. It's a Belgian strong dark ale and extremely smooth. Highly recommended.

Has anyone other than me ever tried Scrimshaw?  If I were a drinking person, which I am not except when Oleg visits the Bay Area, that would be my beer of choice.
If I had known that I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself.   (Plagerized from numerous other folks)

I concede that next week I will have a glass or two of Manishevitz Concord Grape, but not the required four cups.
