Has anyone other than me ever tried Scrimshaw?  If I were a drinking person, which I am not except when Oleg visits the Bay Area, that would be my beer of choice.

I concede that next week I will have a glass or two of Manishevitz Concord Grape, but not the required four cups.

The Concord's the best of the bunch.

The American Homebrewers Association ranks the top 50 U.S. beers.
Which is kind of like the homeschool PTA picking the best teachers, but enough about Yeti.  (I'll be here all week, folks).

Overall, not a bad list and a lot of the very usual subjects - high hop IPAs and Imperial Stouts.

I think there are some really good choices on this list and some horrible oversights (Sculpin and Yeti, tied at 43 should both be top 10 and 4 Sierra Nevada brews in the top 12 is unforgivable), but basically, if you're looking for a list of good U.S. beers, you could do a lot worse.

Sam Adams is a fine beer, but it doesn't belong in the top 50.
Nor does your hometown Anchor Steam.

I'm missing the part where I care about the opinions of people who are as likely as not to "bottle" their product in leftover plastic soda jugs.

I was introduced to Anchor Steam over fifty years ago as an undergraduate in Berkeley at a bar appropriately named "The Anchor"  at the foot of University Ave.  They served draft Anchor Beer in big mugs and fried shrimp in red and white gingham paper boats.  I am getting misty eyed.

Cataracts are a terrible thing, Stew, but I'm not sure what they have to do with your story.

I always think of James Laurinaitis when I drink Laganitas for some reason. Maybe because I have a giant picture of James Laurinaitis in my room where I sit and drink Laganitas and think about James Laurinaitis.
