Episode 7 is catching some flak online from critics who had previously knelt before this show's alter. I don't understand that. I thought it was terrific. I have very little complaint about this show from start to finish. Can't wait to see how it ends, but dread seeing it end.

Finally saw it last night and loved it. *loved* this episode. AV Club gave it a C? That's fucked up and wrong.

The people who were shouting "Marty did it!" or "Rust did it!" are idiots. Also people who think something mystical or supernatural is going to happen in the finale are idiots.

I liked the season finale. And the show gets a new cast next year, so it is the finale for Rust, Marty, and Alexandra Daddario's ginormous jubblies of freedom -- 1/19/14 Never Forget :'(.

The one thing I wasn't too keen on from the finale was Marty had a goddamned throwing axe stuck hilt-deep in his chest but seemed to bounce back from it like he had just been punched pretty well. I've never had an axe buried in to my chest cavity before so YMMV, but I would imagine that's sort of a catastrophic injury.

I didn't think he bounced back all that well. He was about to be done in before Cohle shot Childress from behind. He did crawl over and help Cohle but he couldn't get up and walk out of the fort. We can assume, the axe didn't pierce his lung.

I was more bothered by the green paint clue and the quick resolution of the case once that was pieced together. The old lady at the senior home was extremely clear-minded about he recollections from 17 years past. It's a wonder she didn't have Childress' card in her rolodex or why she was even in that place at all.

And we never got to figure out what was wrong with Audrey, who hurt her, we never followed the case up to the "Big People" who were allowing it to continue. All in all, they seemed to struggle to cram all of this story into eight episodes.

So, even I, who will worship at the alter of this series until I take the checkered flag on my circular journey through existence, understand the criticism of it and actually welcome it. This was Pizzolatto's first shot at doing a tv show and he belted a long, prodigious home run that has thrilled fans and sent critics into a panic of butthurt. I can't wait to see what he does next. He's even hinted at writing novels about Cohle and Hart. Taking this shit offline, so to speak.

And now that's all over, Stew can go back to dosing off to Ray Donavan and NCIS.

TL;DR it had some stuff that wasn't perfectly 'splained but who cares it was a great ride and now it's over, and satisfactorily so.

I enjoyed every episode. That's a good show.

New window so folks don't have to read spoilers.  I was disappointed because the previous seven episodes were building to something, but I didn't know what.  The "what" turned out to be something that in my opinion was mundane and worthy of a one hour cop show episode.   I was not aware that the show was coming back with a different cast, but obviously the dialogue in the final scene as much as announced that would be the case.  And what is wrong with dozing through NCIS?  That is why it is so popular in my age group.  But sleep through Ray Donovan?  Impossible!

Finally got a chance to plow through this show. At the risk of sounding like a fanboy I think the fact that not everything was tied up with a pretty bow was kind of the point. Our two flawed heroes were never going to topple the whole system of corrupt fat old white guys that were involved with the Yellow King shit back in the day. This point was even made explicitly by Marty in the hospital when Rust complained they didn't catch everyone - "we don't live in that kind of world" or something along those lines.

I also thought Rust's final monologue was a great endpoint for his character. The guy who smugly proclaimed that we were all just pieces of meat fooling ourselves into thinking there was some greater cosmic purpose to our existence, admitted that maybe there was something there beneath all the blackness when he was close to detah.

It was amazing. The sensations were a dull, pleasant throbbing, chronic tumescence and a sense of greedy anticipation for the next one. For episodes 3 and 4 in particular I can't imagine waiting a week after they were over to fire up the next episode. The only mild spoiler I had was that a bunch of people were saying HOLY SHIT after one episode in particular, and once the raid on the stash house started to go down I thought well fuck me this is it and IT'S A SINGLE SHOT HOLY FUCK. Granted we didn't watch it all in one sitting, but over 4 or 5 nights, but I was glad that a show multiple people told me I HAD TO WATCH lived up to the hype and then some.

I'm now catching up on some interweb reading on the show and I'm kind of glad I missed out on that. It seems there was a dumbass backlash to the show over the last few episodes and also a bunch of horseshit complaints about misogyny and supporting characters getting short shrift. Christ on a cracker that was the whole point! It was a character study of two guys. One guy was a nihilistic dick and another guy was an entitled, paternalistic philandering dick. Everyone else was simply there to service their story, or sometimes their johnson.

Yep. I fell a bit into the interweb's led Harry Potter trap of thinking everything was a clue to some big reveal.  That this wasn't there?  Big deal.  Woody and Matt were terrific and their stories were great.  That the plot didn't tie up every loose end and all the other characters were two dimensional... so what.

Looking forward to next year.
