2014 NFL Draft
« on: May 07, 2014, 06:05:26 PM »
All purpose thread.  To start it off ESPN published the following quote from Johnny Football,

"NEW YORK -- On the eve of the NFL draft, Johnny Manziel said he has no idea which team will pick him but that any quarterback-needy team that passes on him will regret it."

I would have agreed with him up until the time he made that statement.
If I had known that I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself.   (Plagerized from numerous other folks)

Rumor has it Cade McNown made the same claim.

Since he said he's the best fit for any team needing a QB, you now think he's not going to be a good QB?

Am I understanding this right?

No.  He is clearly a schmuck who is going to be despised by whatever team gets him.  That ain't good.  Especially when the despisee is the team leader in the huddle.

He's a schmuck because he said anyone who passes on him will regret it?

So, then this guy is a schmuck too?

I'm not saying Johnny isn't an asshat, I just think that quote is pretty much standard fare for anyone coming into a draft.

Although Aaron may be a schmuck for other reasons, the statement about the 49ers was made in an entirely different context than Johnny Football's statement.  Rodgers was, by then, a Bay Area boy and a 49er fan.   The 49ers had a need for a quarterback and everyone, me included, knew that he was a natural fit.  What the 49ers did by choosing Alex Smith was a slap in the face.  Rodgers could have said that the Bears are going to regret that the 49ers didn't take him, but he was angry with his "home team", not teams in general.  His statement was made in anger, not simply because he was full of himself.  (Which he was.)

Ryan Riddle should be fired for that alone, assuming he doesn't have the Bears trading up 7-10 spots.

Kyle Fuller is okay with me. I wonder if they use him like AZ did Mathieu last year, move him from nickel to safety, then move him full time to CB as Tillman's replacement in 2015.
I will vow, for the sake of peace, not to complain about David Ross between now and his first start next year- 10/26/2015

I thought Pryor might fill a more immediate need but I'm fine with Fuller too.  Did Hub throw pencils against the wall?

Fortunately I have no idea what Hub thinks. I'll be disappointed still if they don't nab a safety in round 2 or 3 but corner was a definite need, and arguably a greater long term need than safety. I think Buchanon from Washington State makes a lot of sense as 2nd round target at safety.
