If the prospects don't pan out we're fucked whether we have a bunch of mid-level free agent bandaids on the roster either way, so I don't see why we shouldn't just root for the front office to do whatever they need to do to carry out their plan.

And that's why we're all baseball fans -- so we can root for front offices.

This is an odd straw man.

If anyone here is 'rooting for the front office', it's only insofar as we're rooting for the front office's plan to build a baseball team that can win a championship to work out.

No we're all baseball fans to root for a team to win 78 games instead of 63 because FUN

I like the idea that "having fun" is just ancillary to being a sports fan. What other deeper meaning am I missing?

Isn't the whole point of being a sports fan supposed to be to have fun? What other deeper meaning am I missing?

The possibility of more fun to come?

The fact that slapping shit together to get a team that might win 78-85 games if everything breaks right is what the Cubs have done for my entire lifetime and most of the time it hasn't even come close to being "fun."

I mean hell I'm having a lot of fun watching Khrist Bryant highlights and planning a road trip to Des Moines and imagining all of these guys getting promoted and the "plan" coming together. I long ago lost any sense of "Fun" watching the Cubs fiddle-fart their way to fourth. But I guess I'm "brain-washed" into not even knowing what FUN is.

So Eli thinks SKOwarber isn't doing anything unexpected, Baez sucks and Almora will be a 4th OF at best. I guess when you look at things that way, the major league team is more exciting, so 5 more wins is a pretty big deal.

You know what they say, major league championships are built upon the shoulders of minor-league player-of-the-week awards.
