if somebody could figure a way to get some Jordan elimination game tape in front of his face today, that probably wouldn't hurt.

There's very little of that.  Going back to, and including, the 1990 season, Jordan only played in 4 of them.  He won two.  None of them in the NBA Finals.

I'm talking about the games in which Jordan's opponent was on the verge of elimination, but again, thanks for adding insight about a sport you don't watch.

So, you want him to gain inspiration from the loser?  Check.

No, Chuck.

Jordan's records in elimination games:

Chance to eliminate: 30-11
On the verge of being eliminated: 6-7

Edited...and it does not include his years with Washington.  Just Milwaukee in '85 through the Jazz in '98
Just a sloppy, undisciplined team.  Garbage.

Does that include his Wizards years? Just curious.

And now Chuck's got me wondering what 4 instances he's talking about.  If you're talking 7 game series, then there are only 3, going back to '89-'90--Detroit in '90 when they lost in the ECF, NY Knicks in ECSF in '92 when they won and Pacers in '98 ECF when they won.  What's the 4th?

1995 when they lost to the Magic in 6.  Jordan only faced elimination 4 times from 1990 on, 6 times if you include "The Shot" 1989 season.

Fuckballs.  I repressed memories of the 1995 playoffs.

Cool. I take back what I said. LeBron should roll his eyes at any mention of Jordan and go execute the game plan he draws up for his coaching staff.

Again, how nice of Chuck to drop by and cherry pick stats from a random time period incorrectly.

One key to facing so few elimination games might be to retire a couple times in the prime of your career. That's using the fire and the passion in a nifty, veteran-savvy way, no doubt.

The Wizards did not make the playoffs with Jordan as their out-of-shape power forward/GM/owner/albatross. Say what you want about LeBron's team building prowess this season (James Jones, Mike Miller, Shawn Marion, Kendrick Perkins, Oh, my god) he at least had the good sense to sign LeBron James.

I went to check his numbers because I had no idea and found he average 20/6/4 on 45% shooting in his final year with Washington. That's with 1.5 steals and a block. For whatever reason, I remember it being much worse than that. Probably because of narratives.

I think my disconnect here is one of nomenclature. To me, I view an elimination game as a game in which a player and his team are out if they lose. I look at the ability to win a series as a close out game.  Hence, in my word use, Jordan only played in (i.e. faced) elimination 6 times from 1989 until he left the Bulls.  When Apex said LeBron should look at Jordan's "elimination game tape" I thought that's what he was talking about.

Please continue.

It seemed worse because of the mustache. And the team was really bad. Plus 45% isn't bad for a guard but he was a forward then. Those numbers as third banana on a playoff team would look a lot better. He could still do stuff, especially in the post. His positioning and rebounding were still very useful. But he wasn't the destroyer on defense that we'd come to fear.

Your nomenclature is your own, but context clues might have told you that's not what we were talking about. And by Huey's count he "faced elimination" 13 times in his pro career. people cherry picking his prime for the sake of exaggerating the resume of the unanimous choice for Greatest Player Ever is one of the main reasons I've always hated him. With the exception of getting his own father murdered, I've celebrated every one of his handful of personal failures vociferously.

So, that was fucking awful last night.

As depressing a Bulls loss as I can remember in a while.  Just an overall terrible performance.

I don't think there's any coaches out there that they'll bring in better than Thibs, but this team also feels pretty maxed out right now. They had every chance to win this series and just weren't the better team, even without Love and a banged up Kyrie and an up-and-down (mostly up) LeBron.

That Cavs team was beatable as hell this series and while I doubt another coach would have gotten them over the hump, it sure feels like they need to change something, though I'm pretty sure it's a player or two versus a coach.
I can't believe I even know these people. I'm ashamed of my internet life.

The look to be stuck for the next two years until Rose's contract expires.
