For the record, the cover to Action Comics 389:

Everything about this is the best thing.

Mickey Rooney?  Is he already undead?

And now James Garner is back from the dead, too?
Just a sloppy, undisciplined team.  Garbage.

So cross them off the list, then.

Two more notches on Morgan Freeman's belt.

Actually, I don't see Mickey Rooney anywhere on the spreadsheet.  Wondering how he merited a mention in Thrill's summary...

Because I know comics fans are completists, here is the entire DARK YELLON SAGA, suitable for your Trade Paperback bookshelf.

Was just coming here to note that someone has purchased the copy I linked to on eBay. As an internet acquaintance of mine is fond of saying, solid.

My bid at transcribing Ye 14-Year-Old Future Editor in Chief's missive:

QuoteDear Editor:
I would like to write an open letter to Martin Pasko, Steve Carlberg, Loren Lieberthal, Joe Rusnak, Dave Truesdale, Irene Vartanoff and all you other lettercol monopolizers: You may have read DC's longer than I have, you may write more "intellectual" letters—in fact, MORE letters—than I do. But the fact that they get printed is not your fault. Guess whose fault it is? That's right, Ye Editor's. The fact that their letters are more "intellectual," etc., is no reason to let them MONOPOLIZE the "free" lettercolls from us "poorer" readers.
—Alvin Yellon, Winnetka, Ill.
(We've never seen anything in the Bill of Rights that says everyone who writes in has to have his letter published. We pick the best, most thought-provoking letters, and don't notice the signatures till we put 'em in the mag. And yours was... well... one of the most provoking letters we've received.—Ed.)

So, this is the first ever documented instance of Al writing an open letter?  I truly enjoyed the fact that he states in the first sentence of a letter he is sending to be published in the letters page of a comic book that said letter is "open".  What the fuck else could it be?  If it was closed, it wouldn't be published.

Also for the record:

1. Al bemoans the fact that controlling editors (in chiefs?) use their power to monopolize the content of their comic book letters page and  don't give him the freedom to talk about what HE wants.

2. Al declares that just because people have been reading DC Comics longer than him, that this doesn't make their opinions on DC Comics more valid than his.

At long last I have found it - the internet's Perfect Irony.  I hereby resign my position as arbiter of ironic things. The next time you have a question, please refer to this incident (and Al's ensuing career on the internet) and you should be able to judge for yourself.

Good night, and good luck.

It's like witnessing a super villain's origin story. Except in this comic, the super villain doesn't care about money or super powers or world domination -- all he wants is to make sure people could read/publish non-intellectual comments and ban anything resembling intellect.

This really shouldn't be buried in the Dead Pool where only like 5 people will see it instead of 8.

Andy should do a Dose, so maybe 15 people will read it.
