People don't tune in to hear everything is fine.

People don't turn in to hear everything they think is wrong.

This is a large part of the problem. People would rather feel informed than actually be informed. Tuning in for daily affirmation achieves that.

Just another form of faith.

"Yes, I mean both the politicians and God."

This is where I recommend listening to "Joe's Garage".

Can we all just agree that our President is a sociopath and there is no true and honest reporting?

Is there an example of true and honest reporting from days gone by that you are using as a baseline? All reporters have their own worldview and biases on which facts are worthy of gathering, and they report to editors who have their own worldview and biases that impact their decisions on what gets reported, and they report to media executives who have their own worldview and biases that impact who they hired in the first place, and they report to board members who want to consolidate and synergize and cut costs in an industry that should be a public good. I don't know how a rational person could expect there to be any One True Journalism that could emerge through all those filters.

R-V I think your points are very valid. Think about the Tribune  and Colonel McCormick.
But I do believe there was a time when reporters and editors tried to be considerably more accurate than today.
Blue pencil and all.

Or, when is news no longer what matters?

People are a product of the environment they inhabit. To assume that these mythical unbiased reporters of days gone by would be the same reporters in today's environment as they were back then is probably a little misguided, and probably giving them too much credit.

The most revered name in broadcast journalism - Edward R. Murrow - led a merry band of liberals at CBS.

And Hearst was Rupert Murdoch before Murdoch was.

It is as it always has been.

Maybe to me its a 'what's old is new again', but the original reporting (not the analysis or the commentary) from the Times, the Post and the Journal to me strikes me as quite 5W right now (and the bigger the story the more 'straight down the middle' sources seeking to remain credible will be). There are slants and biases, but you know what they are when you walk in.
Andre Dawson paid his $1,000 fine for the Joe West incident with style. Dawson wrote ``Donation for the blind`` in the memo section of his personal check.

It's also possible that we've entered a post-information world. Next time you're in your local grocery store, look at the front page of the National Enquirer, and you'll see the front page is all pro-Trump hit pieces..."MEGYN KELLY - WORST MOTHER EVER!!!"

Plus, people on both sides are perfectly happy only reading what comfortably fits inside their worldview (personally, I like knowing what the other side's thinking)...basically, people are happier feeling informed than actually being informed.

Just not Kaplan's. It's almost as bad as Yellon's.

If people read books they wouldn't write "once and awhile."
