Tell the Hilljacks Where to Eat
« on: September 18, 2017, 11:22:35 AM »
Hi y'all. The wife and I have tickets to see Hamilton on September 30th. It's a 2:30 show, gonna take the train in to town then leave late that night probably. I don't really know the area around the Private Bank Theater at all, so anybody got some good recommendations for a quick/cheapish lunch before the show and a fancier dinner afterwards?

We like just about anything, but usually if we leave bugtussle to the go to the fancy city we try do get something we can't get around here (so good pizza places are fine, but Iowa got pizza sometime around 1982 so anything more original than that is welcome)
I will vow, for the sake of peace, not to complain about David Ross between now and his first start next year- 10/26/2015

What time will you arrive on Saturday?
If you have a limited amount of time and want someplace close and reasonable for lunch that has an old time Loop feel to it try Miller's Pub.
Saturday afternoons in the Loop are weird.

I didn't realize Heaven on Seven was open on Saturday afternoons as well:
http://www.heavenonseven.com/wabash.html

I'm guessing it will be pretty empty.

Both are really good but depending on how much time you have the search can broaden significantly.

Greektown is very close to your train and has great inexpensive options.
Although everyone has their favorites my two are Roditys and Santorini.

For a fancy-pants dinner, our go-to for special occasions is Bavette's. Great atmosphere (it's pretty dark so no one will notice that you're wearing sweatpants) and don't be too intimidated by some of the insanely priced seafood & steak items - they have what I think is the best burger in town and the fried chicken is outstanding as well, along with some other not-insanely-priced entrees.

You won't be able to get a reservation but if it's just the two of you, you should be able to snag a spot at the bar or even a table within an hour or so. About a 10 minute walk from the theater.

Excellent choice but a heads up: they are cash only.

If you decide to skip the hot spots, Berghoff's is always a solid option for large portions. You can just spend the train ride home in a food coma.

The andouille sausage is excellent.
