I see Jim transferring for an episode or so, then his branch being downsized so he's forced to come back to Scranton.  Ricky G still has some creative control, and he's definitely a fan of awkward situations so next season seems promising.  Also, they're having webisodes over the summer featuring the background characters like Kevin, Creed, Oscar and Angela.  Also, I loved Dwight thinking he had a tell on Jim.

I think they had to do something with Jim and Pam before the end of the season.  They painted it into a corner the night they had the Booze Cruise and Roy finally set a date for the wedding.  Until then, they could make jokes about how long Roy and Pam had been engaged, and Jim could half-assedly date other women (especially Amy Adams).  But once they set a date then something had to happen.  I'm glad they finally got it out of the way.

It sets up all kinds of awkwardness for next season, which is exactly what this show thrives on.

I had something on Thursday night and had to wait and watch it on TiVo late that night.  My girlfriend had already called me in between and given up the ending.  Though she didn't think she did.  All she said was..."Have you watched The Office yet?  Oh, I won't spoil it for you, but the ending is GREAT!"  Gee...what could that have meant.

My only doubt was when Jim and Jan were sitting on the car.  But I had that "the ending is GREAT!" running through my mind, so I knew it was going to end with Jim finally saying something to Pam.

Toby: "I don't even play poker.  But taking all of Michael's chips?  That felt really good.  I'm going to chase that feeling."

Kevin: "We don't get many gigs.  Or play in front of people, ever.  We really need Pam's wedding."

Kevin's going to be crushed when the wedding gets called off.

But, I'm a sap and I will admit it, even at the risk of being called gay by Fork, that the Jim and Pam thing was one of the biggest TV highlights in the last umpteen years for me. That was incredible.

I have to disagree here.  I think they have changed the entire genetic makeup for the show and it can never be put back.  Sure I wanted Jim and Pam together, but I could have waited another 4 seasons. 

I look at a show like Cheers, and how they drew out Sam and Diane's relationship for the better part of 6 seasons.  The lack of complication that comes from a relationship from your main love story leaves the show funny and light hearted.  Hell, even the chimps who wrote Friends had the good sense to have Ross and Rachel wait a couple years before putting them together.  Jim and Pam's kiss was irresponsibly impatient.

So much of this show is built around subtlety.  I have the highest of respect for the writers of the Office, as they currently churn out the best show on television every week.  However, this time the writers went the way of the cookie cutter sitcom and brought the audience a convienient, unoriginal resolution far before one was necessary.  I had come to expect more from this show.

I have to agree with Ivy.  I was originally a David Brent snob who has very much warmed up to the American version of The Office, but I think the BBC did it right when the kiss between Dawn (Pam) and Tim (Jim) basically ended the series.  Of course, the BBC version had a very short run, so the kiss came at around the same time as Pam and Jim's.  I just think that the most compelling story is between Pam and Jim, and they certainly can't un-kiss now.

Lately, I've been saying this before I head to the bathroom.  I've found that it gets at least a chuckle even from people that don't watch "The Office."  I'm starting to be able to say it without starting to laugh at the end.  I'd suggest practicing in a mirror if you decide to start using it.  It's harder than you think.

BTW, the summer webisodes went up on nbc.com last week, and they're putting up 2 new ones each Thursday until all 10 are up.
